Western Bureau:

St James High School delivered on their promise to give Rusea's a real taste of leather when they handed the Hanover team an embarrassing 6-1 spanking in their Ben Francis Knockout quarter-final game at Jarrett Park yesterday.

In other quarter-final games yesterday, former champions Glenmuir eliminated the brash Lennon with a 2-1 win in their game at Jamalco; Paul Bogle High surprised Dinthill Technical, ending their unbeaten season with a 1-0 win; while it took penalties to give Munro College a 5-4 win against Manchester High.

In their win against Rusea's, which earned them a slot in next Wednesday's semi-final, the St James got a hat-trick of goals from top striker Allan Ottey, while skipper John Barrett, Ricardo Morris and a Rusea's defender, who inadvertently put the ball past his own goalkeeper, accounted for the other goals. St James also missed a penalty.

"The Rusea's camp said some unpleasant things about us before the game and we came here to answer them on the field today," said St James High's coach, Pastor Hugh Solomon. "We prefer to let the ball do our talking."

In a performance that made a mockery of Rusea's, St James ended the first half with a 5-0 lead and after easing off the throttle, managed only one in the second half.

lone goal

Rusea's lone goal came from the penalty spot, via Brian Brown.

In their game against Dinthill, the Paul Bogle sealed their place in the semi-finals through a strike by the prolific Rafeek Green.

"We had identified some weaknesses with the Dinthill team and we came here prepared to exploit them," said Paul Bogle's coach, Patrick Bartley. "While we only got one goal, we are pleased with the result."

In their game against the much-vaunted Lennon High, Glenmuir did not flinch and, after 90 minutes of exhilarating football, walked away with a 2-1 win, courtesy of goals by Ramon Wilson and Paul Whittaker.

In their game against Manchester High, Munro scored first but Manchester pulled level to make the score 1-1 at the end of regulation and extra-time play. Munro prevailed in the ensuing penalty shoot-out to secure their semi-final place.

title defence

"It was a tough game, but I am happy with the final result," said Munro's coach Hopeton Gilchrist. "We will now go back to get ready for the semi-final."

In next Wednesday's semi-finals, Glemuir will meet Paul Bogle, while St James High will continue their title defence against Munro.
