Green Pond stun Cornwall

Western Bureau:

Out-of-contention Green Pond High School yesterday created a stunning upset in Zone A of the 2009 ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition, when they battled back from two goals down to beat the previously unbeaten Cornwall College 3-2 at Jarrett Park.

Cornwall took a first half 1-0 lead through a brilliant free-kick by skipper Oran Braham and later made it 2-0 midway the second half when substitute Jason King fired home a cross from Ramon Foster.

However, struck in the 79th and 80th minutes through Ricardo Maxwell and Covantai Reid, respectively, to make the score 2-2. Green Pond then took victory in the final moments of the game, when Javian Bailey nodded in a cross from Reid, making the final score 3-2.

With Cornwall held on 21 points and their rival for group honours, champions St James High on 24, Saturday's top-of-the-table clash between the two will decide which one qualifies for the zone's prized Ben Francis Knock Out slot.
