Obama good pick for prize

Obama

The Editor, Sir:

President Barack Obama deserves the peace award. His prominence as a world leader, with a distinct and clearly defined posture toward attaining some semblance of peace on this earth, is being recognised by the Nobel Committee. His efforts have been sincere and gallant, against fiercely formidable odds.

Mr Obama's background as a community organiser was an early demonstration of his genuine concern towards his fellowman and a desire to bring people together.

Receiving a Nobel Peace award is not meant to be an indication that the recipient has attained peace throughout the world, but in recognition of the potential impact of that individual's effort towards that end.

Qualifies through effort

As an emphasis towards that observation, there have been many other Nobel Peace award recipients prior to Mr Obama's - the world is yet to be at peace. The committee is aware of this. Therefore, the conclusion is that it has to be for the effort. Mr Obama qualifies congratulations to the gentleman!

It is possible also that the committee, in a close poll, found it helpful to award Mr Obama at this time, hopefully offsetting what might have been another effort to derail his effectiveness as an influential leader by utilising Chicago's early exit as an Olympic 2016 contender. The consideration here being that President Obama made an appearance at the selection venue, in support of Chicago's' candidacy.

I am, etc.,
