KINGSTON, Jamaica:
The Government has announced that those clamouring for the current board of the National Housing Trust (NHT) to be sacked will have to wait until the tenure of the directors expires next year.

The Easton Douglas led entity has come under fire following its recent $180-million purchase of the property on which the Trelawny-based Outameni Attraction is located.

Speaking at a press briefing at Jamaica House today, Information Minister, Sandrea Falconer, announced that a new board for the NHT will be appointed in April 2015.

However, Falconer stressed that the decision had nothing to do with the ongoing controversy.

She noted that the prime minister has the authority to name a new board whenever one expires.

Today's press conference followed a meeting that was held under the chairmanship of Simpson Miller, along with the Partnership of Jamaica on Tuesday.

Two groups have suspended their participation in the partnership triggered by the controversial purchase of the property.

However, president of the Private sector Organisation of Jamaica, Chris Zacca, who also attended the press briefing, said despite concerns, he is confident that things will be better going forward.

He said the PSOJ is willing to accept that despite the concerns about the actions of the NHT, a new board will be appointed in 2015.

He said the private sector is confident that this new board, will restore the confidence of the general public.
