KINGSTON, Jamaica:
Fourth-year University of the Technology (UTech) student, Duke St John-Paul Foote, is discontinuing his court action against the institution.

A notice to discontinue was filed yesterday when the parties appeared before Justice Andrew Rattary in the Supreme Court.

The court was informed that UTech has complied with an injunction which ordered the institution to re-admit Foote.

The law student had filed an application challenging the university’s decision to deregister him.

Foote was reportedly delisted because he did not pay his 80 per cent of the tuition fee at the specified time.

However, in filing the application, he produced documents to show that he had paid the total fees of $130,000 a day before the October 31 deadline but was still delisted on November 1 as a “student in arrears".

The law student was seeking declarations that he had met the deadline and that the university acted wrongfully when it deregistered him.
