Members of the University of Technology Academic Staff Union (UTASU) are to be updated today on the decisions taken at a meeting of the institution’s governing body yesterday.

The union says if no meaningful decisions were taken on how to resolve a myriad of issues plaguing the university then it cannot guarantee normality on the campus.

Last year staff at the university brought to national attention a number of deficiencies relating to governance, human resource and financial management.

This prompted several investigations into the University’s management.

The subsequent reports generated have cited concerns and made recommendations on issues of transparency and accountability regarding the management and expenditure of millions of dollars.

And in a release yesterday, UTASU said despite a commitment from the Acting President for action by September 30, 2014, there has not been any notable response to any of the many and substantial findings or recommendations of the reports to date.

And it says despite being convinced that the university is in crisis the joint staff unions of the university have continued to exercise restraint.

It says the waiting period has now passed unless meaningful and tangible actions were taken during the Council meeting yesterday it will not be able to guarantee business as usual.
