A new mayor of Lucea in Hanover, is to be sworn in on September 21.

The incumbent, Shernet Haughton, stepped down yesterday.

She is to be replaced by People's National Party (PNP) Councillor for the Chester Castle Division, Wynter McIntosh.

Haughton, who survived a no-confidence vote in April, became the head of the Hanover Parish Council in March 2012.

In the last four months, she has been in a bitter battle with Member of Parliament, Ian Hayles.

Haughton reportedly agreed to step down last Saturday during a meeting with the PNP General Secretary, Paul Burke.

However, she will remain as the councillor of the Green Island Division.

Haughton is the second female PNP councillor to have been removed from the leadership of a parish council in less than a year.

Last September, Marsha Francis-Johnson was removed as chairman of the St Thomas Parish Council after her fellow PNP councillors brought a motion of no-confidence against her.
