Jamaica House has announced that the nation will observe two days of official mourning on August 7-8 for the late former Governor General, Sir Howard Cooke.
The body of the former Governor General will lie in state on Tuesday, August 5 at the Cultural Centre, Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay and Thursday, August 7, at the Mico University College, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In addition, Condolence Books were opened today (Wednesday) at the following locations:
• King’s House
• Office of the Prime Minister Western Region- Mobay
• Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade
• The Mico University – The President’s Office
• People’s National Party Headquarters
• Hope United Church, 221 Old Hope Road, Kingston 6
The Office of the Prime Minister says the condolence books will be opened daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The State Funeral for Sir Howard will take place at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, in Kingston on Friday, August 8 starting at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at the National Heroes Park.
Earlier today a Joint sitting of the Houses of Parliament paid tribute to Sir Howard.
He died two Fridays ago.
