Police Commissioner Owen Ellington is warning that members of the police force will not relent as they seek to tackle crime in 2013.

He said the police will continue to implement strategies and operational plans that will remove illegal guns from the streets, dismantle gangs and restore a sense of safety and security among citizens.

Commissioner Ellington sounded his warning as he congratulated police personnel on the arrest of a wanted man and the seizure of four firearms, thousands of US dollars and a quantity of ganja and ammunition yesterday.

Two of the firearms, ammunition and 15 pounds of ganja were seized during a joint police/military operation in Rose Town in Kingston 13 yesterday evening.

One man and a woman were taken into custody in the operation, however, their identities are being withheld pending further investigations.

The Kingston 13 operation also led to the capture of Delroy Vassel, otherwise called ‘Puff Daddy’ who the police say is wanted for several crimes, including murder.

The police say arrangements are now being made for him to attend an identification parade.

Meanwhile, the police also carried out a nine-hour-long operation in Mount Salem, St. James beginning about 9 o’clock yesterday morning.

The police say they seized a rifle, a machine gun, more than 100 assorted rounds of ammunition, a ballistic vest in camouflage colours, three military-type bags and four masks at Brunswick Lane in the community.

They say a man and a woman were arrested during a search of premises in another area of the community, which turned up over US$8,000, lead lists, a magic jack, laptop computers and cellular phones.

The police believe these items may have been used to conduct lottery scam activities.

Police Commissioner has commended the teams involved in the operations for their professionalism and unwavering commitment to the task of ridding Jamaica of criminal elements.

He said yesterday’s operations are an indication of what is to come in 2013.
