Former champions Harbour View shot to the top of the Digicel Premier League yesterday on 28 points after their impressive 2-0 victory away to St Georges (25 points) at the previously impenetrable Lynch Park venue.

Substitute Denzil Watson was the difference maker, scoring goals in the 70th and 90th minutes to send the 'Stars of the East' into the top spot. It was the Portland-based team's first loss at home all season and one that saw them drop to third spot in the competition.

At the University of the West Indies Bowl, defending champions Tivoli Gardens were held to a dull 0-0 draw by relegation favourites August Town in a game that saw both teams ending with 10 men.

Lifeless start

The match began lifeless as both team failed to create any meaningful chance in the first half.

Things took an eventful turn in the 44th minute when Tivoli Gardens' Rupert Murray and August Town's Aphas Bernard were both ejected for violent conduct.

Tivoli came looking much the better team in the second period, and thought they had taken the lead in the 55th minute, but national representative Navian Boyd's point-blank shot went wide of the target. A few minutes later, Tivoli's striker Owen Powell's close header was tipped over the crossbar by August Town's goalkeeper Devon Haughton.

Substitute Kemar Cockburn received August Town's best scoring opportunity in the second period, but after out-sprinting two Tivoli defenders and with custodian Leon Gordon at his mercy, he shot wide of the target.

Coach pleased

Despite the draw, Lenworth Hyde coach of Tivoli said he was pleased with his team's efforts. "Our performance was great, but whenever, you are playing a team that is looking a point, it is going to be tough because they were defending from start to finish and it was hard for us to penetrate," Hyde said.

Calvert Fitzgerald, coach of the August Town, said he was delighted with his charges' performance.

"I think it was an excellence game from us because in the first round, we got 4-1 from Tivoli and we didn't conceded a goal today," said Fitzgerald. "I think that we have been showing a lot of improvements in this round as we have not lost a game yet," Fitzgerald noted.
