Give the Air Jamaica staff a chance
THE EDITOR, Sir:

Why is the process of divesting Air Jamaica so lengthy? Is it due to the various profitable options available? One such valid and viable option is that of selling Air Jamaica to the employees.

We should give more than just a mere consideration to the workers' expressed interest to run this noble company, but to give them the opportunity to take up this challenge. It is stated that the pilots of this company submitted a bid but have not received a response. Should we not develop faith in our own people?

Success story

We all stand to benefit if the divestment committee for Air Jamaica facilitates the birth of a success story comparable to the Jamaica Printing Services (1992) Limited (The Worker's Print Shop). This company was divested to the former employees and currently operates by providing good quality service and customer satisfaction. This is a true testimony to genuine faith, support and patriotism.

Divesting Air Jamaica to its employees presents numerous advantages which far outweigh the challenges. Complete worker ownership and operation not only give the workers the impetus to achieve the highest standard of quality service and customer satisfaction, but to build shareholder value, improve profitability and strengthen the company's compe-titive performance.

Expert staff

The workers of Air Jamaica possess the expertise and it is incumbent on them to strategically harness their expertise and make Air Jamaica the true Lovebird that flies high, profitable, sustainable and positively impacts the Jamaican economy.

Once more, I implore the divestment committee to review the achievements of the Jamaica Printing Services (1992) Limited and give the workers a chance!

I am, etc.,
