WESTERN BUREAU:
In all her years of working with the mentally challenged, Dr Pearnell Bell admits that she has never before experienced the loyalty, commitment and devotion seen in all-woman fund-raising committee that pulled off the Committee for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill (CUMI) Come Run 10K event recently.
And so, the doctor of therapeutic services felt that one way she could reward this illustrious group of women was to fête them in fine style at her Ironshore residence in Montego Bay on Saturday, October 10.
Women of substance
In partnership with her husband, Leroy and nurse administrator of CUMI, Joy Crooks, Dr Bell read poetry from her book of poems at her poolside and served up the most tasty bammy, escoveitch fish, garlic shrimp, jerked chicken, rice and peas, mackerel run dung, salt fish fritters and roast breadfruit.
The women of substance in attendance included Kay Osborne, Felix Hunter, Candace Hart, Kathryn May and daughter, Savannah, Ann Newnham, Jacqueline Hamilton, Shelagh Jardim, Sonja Clarke, Dacia Smith and Staysie Spence.
Although absent, Lyn Langford, Jane Fray, Christine O'Callaghan, Nancy Pinchas and Justine Henzell were recognised for their contribution the event's success.
The husbands who turned out to enjoy the festivity included Richard Hamilton, Frank May and Mark Hart.
