The role of citizens
You should have expected it. So here it is: The Role of the Citizen, the balancing sequel to last week's 'The role of the Government'. What I didn't expect was the re-opening of parliamentary debate on the Charter of Rights right after publishing The role of Government and just ahead of today's piece on the role of the citizen.

Time to 'run wid it'
The mind-boggling performances of our home-grown superstar, Usain Bolt, in Beijing last year and in Berlin this summer, have placed him on such a high pedestal as to make him Jamaica's foremost ambassador throughout all of our history.

Good values and positive attitudes
We are constantly caught up in the economic crisis, rates of exchange, interest rates, etc. These are important to our county, but we also need to focus on the values and attitudes of our people.

The war over religion
According to the World Christian Encyclopaedia, if atheism and secularism were categorised as a religion, they would be the third largest in the world (1.1 billion), behind Islam (1.5 billion) and Christianity (2.2 billion) but surpassing the Hindus.

The IMF: Comparing Jamaica and the Dominican Republic
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has agreed to lend the Dominican Republic (DR) US$1.7 billion under an agreement of 28 months. Jamaica is seeking US$1.2 billion for an agreement covering 24 months. These two neighbouring countries are asking for very similar support.
