Heroes Day face-off

Campbell

Despite his opponents' experience and superior cars, Chris Campbell intends to take the fight to ace drivers Doug Gore Jr and David Summerbell at tomorrow's Heroes Day race meet at Dover Raceway, St Ann. The LIME-sponsored event is scheduled for noon.

"Although they are more experienced than I am, fear will not be a factor, I am going to take it to them," said the Clarendon businessman.

Campbell, who is in his second season at Dover, said his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV was "well-prepared and ready for action".

President of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC), Hilary Jardine, believes Campbell could be the man to take over from the highly-rated Summerbell.

"We have done some necessary adjustments, plus I am in a good frame of mind," said Campbell, who is confident he can win the Thundersport Class.

According to the responses of other drivers, it will not being an easy task for Campbell.

Reports are that Doug Gore has flown in an auto expert from the United States to fine-tune his vehicle. He said he is ensuring that Team MoBay takes home the major prizes."The car should be much faster," said Gore, who disclosed that the US-based mechanic promised that his car should be doing some fantastic things.

While the fans may be expecting great things from Guy Fraser, the MoBay-based driver said he wants his car to first compete in the event and finish the race - anything can happen after.

"The car is very fast on the straight but since I put in a bigger engine, it has not been running the way it should," said Fraser.

Total-sponsored David Summerbell will start the day as the crowd favourite. The fans will be eagerly awaiting the return clash between Gore and Summerbell.

Peter 'Bull' Thompson, another crowd favourite, is expected to come out and put on a good show. Favourite to win the IP27 category is defending champion Stephen Bansie. Other drivers looking good are Brian Foster, Peter Jaggan, Teddy Burton, Gary Barrett, and Raymond Donaldson.
