Sir Patrick also attended the same college.

Three residents of St Ann were awarded in recognition for their sterling contribution to their parish. They are Marvin Gooden, Denneisha Blair and Roland McPherson.

The citations were presented at the fifth annual banquet of the St Ann Homecoming and Heritage Foundation, held at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort and Spa in Ocho Rios, St Ann, recently.

One-man band

Some of the guests travelled from overseas to attend the function. Dorothy Warmington, wife of retired Detective Superintendent Neville Warmington, both of whom are directors of Warmsville Security Consultancy, sported a colourful African outfit including matching head wrap.

Musician Paul Tucker's one-man band provided some melodious rhythms during dinner. His selections spanned all musical genres.

The St Ann Homecoming and Heritage Foundation is a non-profit organisation, established to, among other things, play a pivotal role in the development of the parish as well as undertaking projects and assist needy children.

The foundation spearheads a number of projects in the parish including the Marcus Garvey Resource Centre Project and Children of Our Village.

Governor General Sir Patrick Allen urged the foundation's members not to become weary in doing well towards human development and nation building.

He reminded them that Marcus Garvey and Bob Marley could be listed among the most influential people in the world, adding that Garvey's words continue to inspire many today and said it was imperative for the people of St Ann, Jamaica and the diaspora to continue to build upon Garvey's legacy.
