This ain't your grandma's art show. Kingston's Oakton House on Hagley Park Road has been the scene of some hot one-night stands since the opening of Art Erotic, an art show for adults that opened in late July. The show is put on by the Jamaica Guild of Artists and features works by its members that are sure to leave visitors craving more, not to mention hot and bothered.
The truth is, the pieces, which include paintings, sculptures, photos and some things in-between aren't the raunchy, explicitly sexual creations you might expect, or, depending on your taste, may have been hoping for, but they do showcase more of the human body than allows us to publish here.
That the female form is the star of the show is without question. Things like ackees, apples and even rocks are used to artistically portray different parts of the female body. For the uninitiated, some of the pieces are sure to cause a childish chuckle or two, but for those with an appreciation for art and aren't easily embarrassed, the art show will prove a fascinating display of human artistic expression and imagination.
One Night Stand
The exhibition opened on July 30 under the sub-theme 'One-Night Stand', and was intended to be just that; a one-night show. The response that night, though, and the huge crowd that turned out prompted organisers to extend the exhibition for a few more weeks.
Oakton House isn't a large gallery by any means, but does offer enough room for visitors to roam freely and admire the different works of art. Bring your spouse or significant other and make a day of it, why don't you? Remember, though, leave the children at home. This show is for adults 18 and over.
