Do Jamaicans hate E10 gas?
Reports of what drivers' experiences have been with E10 are continuing to pour in. Do any of these problems sound like yours? Continue to fill out The Gleaner's E10 survey and tell us what you think. You can find it on go-jamaica.com or jamaica-gleaner.com. Below are just some of the many comments we have been collating.

"I have to be using a lot of fuel cleaner. I use a lot of ethanol booster and it seems to be of no use. I will obviously have to change my engine in the short term."

"... what is 'E10'?"

"Had to change all filters, throw away gas to clean the gas tank, had to change O-rings and seals and engine gasket."

"My car has a problem starting and sometimes it shuts off after I take my foot off the gas. I took it to the mechanic and he changed some parts but the problem has not stopped."

"My vehicle is made for Octane 91 and over. I used E10 90 for the first time on November 17. I have had to spend $25,000 to clean the tank, gas lines, cylinder heads, etc. You do not have to climb a hill to hear the rattling and grinding. We are now living in a communist country with no choices. I had no problem with 90 Octane. Now, I have no choice. After spending all that money, I have to park the car as there is no 90 Octane available, only E10."

"My gas usage has increased significantly ... something is not right! I put a thousand dollars ... my tank rose to above half. I left Portmore for Kingston (UTech) and returned to Portmore. I had to put more gas in the tank the next day because my tank was now below the quarter mark! HELP! In addition to the toll, we are now being extorted by Petrojam E10!"

"Just using this space to note that the E10 is not a viable economic alternative - it is more expensive and I need to refill more often. I feel robbed."

"I have spent over $85,000 trying to figure out why I have been having regular shut-offs and after changing fuel pump and filters, doing several diagnostics and changing plugs, I'm still shutting off. Then I realised that all that overhaul was useless, as it was the E10 that was causing the problem. It is not compatible with my type of engine, now I'm in a rut as E10 is islandwide."

'I had to replace my engine gasket because it started to smoke. Cost of repairs: more than $150,000.'
