Trying to play God

The Editor, Sir:

I am writing with regard to churches lobbying for a ban on television and radio coverage, as well as for Off-Track Betting to be prohibited in Jamaica on Sundays.

Silburn Kerr of Abundant Life Christian Church and other churches are missing the mark by lobbying for this. In the end, it makes God out to be the bad guy. I have been a board member of a Christian organisation that ministers to workers at the racetrack. And it seems to me that these churches are trying to play God.

I believe it is a mistake for these churches to cause this ban. In the end, it will only drive people away from the actual purpose God stands for.

I am, etc.,
