Musical tsunami long in coming
The Editor, Sir:

The Kartel-Mavado Gaza-Gully splash is the cresting of a musical tsunami that started decades ago during the ska era. Successive governments were once happy with the amount of 'positive' growth and energy that was being built up in the entertainment wave as a result of this type of behaviour.

Having watched the wave grow, its shoreline break is now crashing down to drown us all, especially as there are no proper storm channels or structures identified to harness the tremendous amount of energy that now floods our schools and airwaves.

Our only life raft is to be found in the same wave that threatens us with destruction. Inflate the raft of good positive uplifting reggae music and send it out to study and report back on the earthquake that started the tsunami in the first place, one that continues to promote instability by spewing its overheated core, offending its surroundings with repugnant dangerous smoke and steam.

Marijuana abuse

The output of lyrics and utterances of today's dancehall icons are just like the smoke, the sulphuric offence that emanates to poison the surroundings from the volcano that rumbles.

The input of our more responsible, mature professional artistes and entertainers is desperately needed if we are to navigate away from this wave of indiscipline that threatens to upend and drown us. They alone can get on top of the crescendo, above the noise to offer Jamaica a lifeline to pull us towards safer ground.

Our government must partner with responsible entertainers to chart a course that will guide this ship towards safe ports and away from war zones like Gaza!

I am, etc.,

D. STREET
