KINGSTON: Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Desmond McKenzie, has said that persons applying to the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) to mount display boards promoting events, will be required to make a security deposit of $50,000 as of December 1.

"We have to put in some security, because when we take down these (advertisement) boards, it costs the council to do so," the mayor explained at the KSAC's monthly meeting on Tuesday.

He noted that the deposit, which will be in addition to the regular advertising fee, can be recovered after the event, as persons will have two days following the event to remove advertisement boards.

This new regulation, which has been recommended by the KSAC's administrative staff, has become necessary as the corporation has been encountering problems with promoters advertising throughout the city without permission, leaving advertising boards up for extended periods following the events, and not compensating the council when it removes the boards.
