Western Bureau:
With the 2009 ISSA/ Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup football competition now on in earnest, the competition will resume today at 3:30 p.m. with a total of nine games spanning zones D, J and K.
While none of the fancied teams will be on show, the games are nonetheless expected to generate a fair amount of interest as the competing teams will no doubt have their sights set on zonal honours, which would guarantee them a place in the Ben Francis Knockout and keep their daCosta Cup campaign on track.
Winning streak
With maximum six points from two games, the Cassman Williams-coached Cedric Titus are expected to extend their winning streak in Zone D when they come up against the inconsistent Aabuthnott Gallimore on their home turf at Clark's Town in Trelawny. In their three games to date, Aabuthnott Gallimore have recorded a win, a draw and a defeat.
Taking the lead
In Zone J, 1979 and '81 cham-pions Dinthill Technical, with seven points from three games, could take over leadership from the inactive Bog Walk with a win against bottom-place Tacky. Bog Walk have the maximum nine points from the three games they have played, while Dinthill started with a 2-2 draw against Glengoffe and then followed up with respective 3-0 and 1-0 wins against McGrath and Charlemont. Tacky's one point from two games came from a 1-1 draw with Ewarton.
In Zone K, St Mary Technical will be aiming to make it three wins from three starts and widen their lead atop the zone when they take on the struggling Iona, who are without a point after back-to-back defeats in the two games they have played.
St Mary Technical tagged Oracabessa 3-0 and hammered Islington 6-0, while Iona suffered similar 0-1 defeats to Islington and St Mary High.
