Waterhouse off the mark

A 73rd-minute strike by Nicholi Findlayson broke the streak of defeats for Waterhouse in the Digicel Premier League, resulting in a one-all draw with Harbour View at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium on Sunday.

Findlayson's equalising goal set off rapturous applause throughout the stadium and placed an impetus on the former cellar-dwellars, as they rallied strongly for the remainder of the match.

Coach of the Waterhouse team, Geoffrey Maxwell, said his players showed character in getting their first point of the season.

"This is just the beginning of things to come. We played well, especially in the second half where we injected some of our form players and it resulted in us getting one point. The team has also shown that if they play to instructions we have the potential to go places," Maxwell said.

The match, played under wet conditions, saw the Harbour View team taking the lead in minute number two through an André Fagan strike, which stunned the home team supporters into silence.

Failure of the Waterhouse defence

It was the failure of the Waterhouse defence to mark Fagan, which resulted in him beating keeper Moschell Nelson with a tame shot.

Harbour View dominated throughout the first half, although Waterhouse got five corners.

In the second half, Waterhouse started to pressure their opponents with Kenardo Forbes, Damion Williams, Desmond Breakenridge, Findlayson, André Clennon and Irvino English all playing well and stringing a number of passes together.

They equalised when Forbes took a corner that was kicked in the path of Findlayson, who blasted a scorching shot from about 25 yards that gave the keeper no chance.

Harbour View made several changes but none impacted in a way significant enough to prevent the Stars of the East from getting their fourth consecutive draw.

Coach Donovan Hayles said a change is needed in the team's result pattern if they are to figure prominently in the league.

"We are thankful for the one point. However, the team needs to start winning some games,'' said Hayles.
