Western Bureau:

Rivoli United came within a few seconds of ending Village United's unbeaten run in the 2009-10 Digicel Premier League this season but in the end, they gave up an added-time goal which resulted in the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

In the game, which was played at the Elliston Wakeland Youth Centre in Falmouth on Sunday, Rivoli United took the lead through top marksman Devon Hodges in the 15th minute but just when it looked like his goal was enough to give his team victory, Village United drew level through Cordell Simpson with the last kick of the game.

"Three points would have put us in a better position but such is life. We are a young team and we are still working to get it right," said Rivoli's coach Bradley Stewart, whose team stays unbeaten on six points after four games. "We controlled 92 minutes of the game and the one mistake cost us two points."

"We got some good looks at the goal in the first half but did not make use of our chances, so I am happy we got this late goal," said Village United's coach, Cassman Williams, whose team is also on six points from four games. "Part of our plan is to stay unbeaten for as long as possible."

Hodges put Rivoli in front when he took control of the ball between two defenders, dribbled two paces and fired past the goalkeeper, making the score 1-0.

Rivoli took control after their goal but despite creating several good openings, they failed to add to their tally by the half-time break.

The second half saw Rivoli controlling the run of play, creating several easy opportunities. The best came in the 63rd minute when the Village custodian failed to gather a cross and several players kicked and missed with the empty goal before them.

Rivoli also wasted back to back chances in the 83rd and 84th minutes, respectively, when Hodges mis-kicked before goal and Fidel Anderson failed to get his close range shot on target.

With seconds to go, a hasty clearance by a defender fell into the path of Simpson and his fierce volley left the goalkeeper a mere spectator as it crashed into the roof of the net.
