Don't blame mothers
The Editor, Sir:

I noted the comments of attorney Nathan Robb who blamed overprotective mothers for "the new breed of lacklustre young men in the society". I would like to inform Robb that our young men no longer bond with each other because of our homophobic society which see all male friendship as a homosexual relationship and this is learnt from the men in our society.

Uninvolved and absent fathers create a void in the lives of children, as they have no male figure to model. It is regrettable that the mothers who are the stable factor in the lives of their children are being blamed for the behaviour of the men in our society.

I would encourage Robb to become involved by providing that surrogate father that so many of these boys need. It is easy to stay on the fence and criticise as you only point out the obvious. We need men who will step out of their comfort zone and be to these boys what they want to see in them as grown men.

I am, etc.,

Y. C.
