'Award of contracts worrisome'

A REPORT on a Special Investigation by the Office of the Contractor General (OCG) has suggested that there was a deviation from the procurement guidelines in the award of contracts by at least two public bodies in North East St Catherine.

The agencies highlighted in the report are the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) and/or the St Catherine Parish Council, acting on behalf of RADA.

The Opposition People's National Party had asked the OCG in June to investigate whether contracts, in the run-up to the North East St Catherine by-election, were awarded in compliance with the provisions of the Contractor General Act and other government procedures.

However, the OCG could not be sure if two of the contracts investigated pointed to evidence of breaches.
