Real 'brownings'
The definition of 'browning' is wrong, especially when it is used to describe one's complexion. How long will it take us Jamaicans, especially the men, to come to our senses?
The authentic colour of brown is very close to the colour black, so bleaching oneself to become a browning is illogical. Therefore, the term browning, which is used to describe people of fair or light complexion, should be abolished.
The genuine browning should now stand up and take a bow.

Knowledge plus beauty
Why do the powers in charge think that Jamaica will ever win by sending beauty queens to international beauty contests who have nothing to represent Jamaica but 'light skin'? Don't they know it's no longer the status quo for beauty? Hello, it's 2009, not 1909.
Let us use the same qualification methods we use for our world famous athletes (obvious, indisputable God-given traits).

Shame on you!
Shame on you, letter-writer Everton Eastwood! Have you ever studied our motto, 'Out of Many One People'? Did you ever look at our Coat of Arms and see the Indians?
The recently selected Miss Jamaica beautifully depicts our motto. You are too insular and mono-focused, Mr Eastwood. Wise up yourself and have some respect for minorities like Lisa Hanna and Laurel Williams, who were not merely part of the judging team, but who, in the past, held our Jamaican flag high both nationally and internationally.

Rename schoolfor Marley
The late reggae icon, Robert Nesta Marley, attended the Stepney All-Age School (now Stepney Primary and Junior High School), where he acquired his early education. I suggest that the Ministry of Education take the necessary steps to have the school renamed the Bob Marley Primary and Junior High School.
