Ruthless Barbados needed less than three days to brush aside Combined Campuses and Colleges by six wickets and waltz to their second successive win in the WICB Regional four-day tournament yesterday.
Set an uncomplicated 111 to win after pacer Kemar Roach shell-shocked CCC to send them crashing for 183, Barbados overcame an atrocious start to reach 112 for four shortly after tea on the third day of the sixth-round encounter at the North Stars Ground.
Fast bowler Kevin McClean produced an incisive opening spell of three for 18 to reduce Barbados to a precarious 24 for three, but Kirk Edwards stroked an unbeaten 59 to guide the hosts safely to their target.
McClean knocked over skipper Jason Haynes for nought without a run on the board and then removed the other opener Jason Parris for eight with the score on 24.
With no further runs added, the right-armer then accounted for Kevin Stoute without scoring, to leave Barbados in strife at 24 for three.
But Edwards struck six fours and two sixes off 100 balls and shared a crucial 72-run stand for the fourth wicket with Rohan Nurse, who spent an hour-and-a-half over 32, to push Barbados to the brink of victory before the result was formalised moments after the tea break.
Earlier, Roach snatched four for 57 as CCC, resuming at 128 for five, lost their last five wickets for just 55 runs.
Starting the day without a wicket in his column, the rookie fast bowler grabbed four of the last five to fall, including that of danger man Floyd Reifer for 19, to hasten the end of the CCC innings.
