Health Minister, Dr Fenton Ferguson, says discussions are now underway with three hospitals with a view to helping the May Pen hospital in Clarendon cope with its shortage of bed spaces.

The hospital is now only accepting emergency cases.

Ferguson says help is being sought from the Lionel Town, Linstead and Mandeville Regional hospitals.

He says the ministry is exploring all the possibilities to restore normalcy at the May Pen Hospital.

Ferguson explains that the problem at the May Pen Hospital is caused by an unusual number of patients turning up at the hospital.

He says many of them are persons suffering from non-communicable diseases and who have failed to take their medication as prescribed.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister says he has given instructions for a public education campaign to be undertaken to encourage persons to comply with their dosage instructions.

He says the campaign is part of efforts to slow down the number of persons turning up at the hospital.
