UWI student leader to gov't: Can you guarantee science and technology graduates jobs?
Jovan Johnson, Gleaner Writer

KINGSTON, Jamaica:
A student leader at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, is questioning whether the Government can guarantee that science and technology students will have jobs after completing their studies.

Guild President, Lerone Laing says the Government must ensure that the society can absorb the graduates if it intends to continue giving preference to science and technology students.

He is also calling for the release of data informing the preference policy.

Meanwhile, the guild president says students not studying science and technology will feel shafted if they are unable to get SLB funding.

Laing says the Government needs to instead focus on ensuring that the SLB becomes sustainable.

He says the guild is currently trying to organise a meeting with the SLB’s head Monica Brown.
