The police High Command is reprimanding officers in charge of police stations who continue to be tardy in handing over fines to the courts.

In fact, the High Command says some sub-officers do not hand over the fines at all.

In last week's Force Orders, the police High Command said the officers fail to carry out their duties despite the proximity of police stations to the courts.

It says the weaknesses and loss of revenue ought not to occur and must be promptly addressed.

Meanwhile, the police High Command say persons standing as sureties will now be required to submit two utility bills to support their proof of address.
The measure took effect on November 13.

The High Command says the requirement for two utility bills became necessary, as in a number of instances, persons give information leading to vacant lots or fictitious addresses.

Along with the utility bills, persons standing as sureties are also required to present photo identifications such as drivers’ licence or voter identification cards.

According to the police High Command, the changes are aimed at preventing the reoccurrence of the criticisms in reports from the Auditor General and the Justice Ministry.
