Former West Indies coach Ottis Gibson has blamed the lack of commitment from senior players as the reason why the Caribbean side failed to perform consistently.

Gibson, speaking for the first time since the sudden departure from the team, says the players were distracted by off the field issues.

However, he believes that some of the players just did not buy into his philosophy.

Gibson, who dismissed the West Indies Cricket Board’s statement that they mutually agreed to end their association, also says the senior players were not committed to West Indies cricket because they were making money playing in other leagues.

Gibson took up the post in January 2010 after a spell as England's bowling coach.

Gibson’s finest moment with the Windies came when he led them to victory in the ICC World Twenty20 two years ago.

However, the Windies only won nine of 36 Tests under the 45-year-old, with only four series victories, three of which came against lower ranked nations.
