The Police Federation says it will not accept or be bound by any wage freeze when its current arrangement with the government ends come March 31 next year.

The Federation represents more than 11,600 rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

According to the Federation’s Chairman, Sergeant Raymond Wilson it is unthinkable that the Government would even contemplate this as an option.

He says rank and file members of the JCF have had their salary eroded in the last six years and their spending power has been considerably reduced.

Sergeant Wilson also says the cuts in the force’s budge have not made things easier as there are many instances where Police Officers have had to spend from their salaries to purchase uniforms and accoutrements in order to look presentable for duty.

The Police Federation called an All-Island Branch Board Meeting for this morning where the issue was raised.
