There has been a nine per cent increase in the number of people killed on Jamaica's roads since the start of the year.
This is according to the latest statistics from National Road Safety Council (NRSC), which is also reporting a 12 per cent increase in fatal crashes so far this year.
According to the data, 260 persons died in 239 fatal crashes up to yesterday, while 239 persons were killed in 213 fatal crashes for the corresponding period last year.
The latest victims are one year old Navaro Moss, of Nain, in St Elizabeth and a 54-year-old woman from Savanna-La Mar, in Westmoreland.
It is reported that the woman was crossing the Beckford Street main road yesterday morning when she was hit by a motorist who was attempting to overtake a line of traffic.
