Make destroying mosquito breeding sites a priority, says Ferguson
The health minister is urging persons to make seeking out and destroying mosquito breeding sites a priority going forward.

While the ministry has been actively engaged in fogging, with vector control activities conducted in 977 communities since June, Ferguson says it is important that persons set aside time each week towards the activity.

The health minister also says the government has been meeting with several stakeholders to develop a coordinated approach to tackling the spread of the virus going forward.

Ferguson says, following one such meeting last week, the government is now planning a National Clean Up Day.

He is urging Jamaicans to come out and work, once the date is announced.

Ferguson and the Portia Simpson Miller-administration have been facing mounting criticisms for their handling of the chikungunya outbreak.

Many persons, including members of the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party have charged that the Government’s response was slow and that the cases were being grossly under reported, with only 35 confirmed.
