The Health Minister, Dr Fenton Ferguson, says he expects to receive a report from the South East Regional Health Authority by early September following complaints about patient treatment at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital.
This morning Ferguson made an unannounced visit to the maternity hospital.
According to the Health Minister, there is tremendous strain on the facility with more than nine thousand deliveries each year.
During the tour, Ferguson indicated to the staff that he was aware of the challenges and sought to assure that the Health Ministry and the South East Regional Health Authority are addressing them in a systematic way.
Ferguson also told the staff that unprofessional employees must be punished as a small group must not be allowed to destroy the reputation of the majority.
He said the Ministry will also be looking at spending more money on training especially in the area of customer service while focusing on continuous monitoring.
On August 4, Ferguson ordered an immediate investigation into operational procedures of the hospital after patients reported that the nurses were unprofessional when delivering babies and caring for mothers.
