Four Jamaicans, including Jaheel Hyde, have secured qualification to medal rounds on today’s first day of the track and field action at the second Summer Youth Olympics Games in Nanjing, China.

Hyde clocked a personal-best 13.16 seconds to easily win Heat One of the men’s 110-metre hurdles and advanced to the Saturday’s final.

Hyde’s 13.16 clocking means he will enter the final with the fastest qualifying time.

Martin Manley, Janeek Brown and Lushane Wilson are the other Jamaicans in medal rounds.

Manley, who along with Hyde won gold medals at last year’s World Youth Championships in Donetsky, Ukraine, easily progressed to the men’s 400-metre final.

The St Jago High School student achieved qualification by winning Heat One in 47.14 seconds, the fastest time going into the final on Saturday.

Brown secured her place in the women’s 100-metre hurdles final after she clocked 13.66 seconds for third place in her heat.

And Wilson progressed to the men’s high jump final after clearing 2.07 metres in the qualifying round. That effort landed him sixth place.

Meanwhile, World Youth medallist Tiffany James did not progress to the medal round of the women’s 400 metres despite a second place finish in her heat.

James registered 54.54 seconds but that effort wasn’t among the top nine times in the heats.
