The Senior Vice-president of Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU), Wesley Nelson, is calling on members of the public to stand up and resist the JUTC increases.
According to Nelson the government is not serious about improving the well-being of the poor.
He says the proposed increases are exorbitant, and will create additional burdens on the poor and elderly.
The BITU vice-president is acknowledging that the JUTC is suffering losses.
However, he says, the company must put proper management structures in place to ensure its survival.
He says now is not the time to raise bus fares especially given the economic climate.
