The government is urging schools to give special attention to mosquito breeding sites as they carry out clean up activities for the resumption of classes.
Principals and administrators are also being urged to be on the lookout for students who may display symptoms of the Chikungunya virus.
Symptoms include high fever, joint pain mainly in the hands, wrists and ankles, headache, muscle pain and a rash.
Officials of the Ministries of Education and Health met yesterday to discuss ways to prevent the spread of the virus in schools.
Students are expected to return to school in another two weeks and there is increasing concern that they will be further exposed to the mosquito-transmitted virus.
Education Minister Ronald Thwaites says teachers and principals must do all they can keep schools Chikungunya free.
