PHOTOS: Colourful Opening Ceremony for Commonwealth Games

The 20th Commonwealth Games got under way this evening in Glasgow, Scotland with a colourful opening ceremony which will also served as a fundraiser for the children's charity UNICEF.

Jamaican schoolgirl, Jenica Stewart, was the among the faces of the UNICEF appeal and was the first to carry the Commonwealth Games baton on to the stage.

Seventy-one nations are participating in the Games which run from July 23-August 3.

Gleaner Photographer, Ricardo Makyn, captured some of the sights and scenes at the opening ceremony.
