Oregon, USA:
Jamaica's athletes registered a good start in the opening session of the World Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon as both sprint hurdlers, Tyler Mason and Marvin Williams won their heats to advance to tomorrow's semi finals.
The third-ranked Mason was the first Jamaican to take to the track.
Competing in heat five, he won in 13.46 seconds - the third fastest qualifier overall.
"It was a slow start for me but I picked up in the middle of the race and I am very confident of doing much better in the semi final," said Mason.
Meanwhile, Williams, the World Youth 400 metres hurdles champion, had to work hard to win his heat.
Competing in the seventh and final heat, Williams won in 13.71 seconds to be the 13th fastest overall.
"I am not pleased with my race execution but hopefully I can get it better in the next round," said Williams.
Great Britain's David Omoregie was the fastest qualifier, winning his heat in 13.24 seconds with CARIFTA Games under-20 champion, Wilheim Belocian representing France, the second fastest qualifier in 13.40 seconds.
