KINGSTON, Jamaica:
Veteran boxer Donovan ‘Police’ Campbell will begin his campaign for a second title in the Wray and Nephew Contender series when action resumes tonight at the Chinese Benevolent Association auditorium.
The 45-year-old Campbell, who won the title in 2012, will take on the experienced journeyman Anthony Osbourne in the main bout, starting at 9:30 this evening.
Osbourne, 38, is the lone Jamaican on the eight-man Caribbean team.
He has had 48 fights, winning nine and losing 37.
Before the main fight there will be two amateur bouts with the first one set to start at 8:30 this evening.
This is the sixth week of preliminary fights.
The winner of today’s main bout will join Jamaicans Ramel Lewis, Sakima Mullings Richard Holmes, Tsetsi Davis along with Barbadian Christopher ‘Shacka’ Henry in the quarter-final.
Sixteen welterweight boxers, including eight from other Caribbean countries, are contesting the series.
The boxers are fighting for a top prize of $2 million with the runner-up earning $500,000 third place $250,000 and fourth place $200,000.
