Beginning next month the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) will provide additional support to the small- and medium-enterprises (SME) sector.

Finance and Planning Minister Dr Peter Phillips announced in Parliament this afternoon that the DBJ will introduce a voucher system effective May 1.

SMEs will access financial and other technical support from the DBJ which will finance assistance to players in the sector to the tune of up to $300,000.

Phillips says the SMEs will be granted vouchers to take to development agencies such as the Jamaica Business Development Centre (JBDC) for capacity and other support.

The finance minister's comments came a short while ago as he opened the 2014-2015 Budget Debate in Parliament.
