Explosive West Indies opener Chris Gayle will join the Jamaican squad in St Lucia and is expected to play in the teamís final preliminary round match of the Caribbean Twenty20 tournament.

Gayle tweeted on social media network site Twitter that he had already booked his ticket to join the team.

A source at the Jamaica Cricket Association confirmed Gayle's availability.

However, the source requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media about the matter.

Jamaica will play the final preliminary round game against Combined Campuses and Colleges on Friday and need a victory to book a play-off spot.

Under the new tournament format, the team which tops the preliminary round will advance to the Grand Final on Sunday.

Defending champions Trinidad and Tobago achieved the top spot following last night's five-wicket victory over Barbados.

The second and third placed teams will meet in the Play-off on Saturday.

The winner of the Play-off will meet Trinidad and Tobago in the Final.

Second placed Jamaica, Barbados, Windward Islands and Guyana are fighting for the playoff spots.

Gayle, who was not named in the squad because of his participation in the Australia Big Bash League, was available for selection after Jamaicaís second match, due to an early exit of his team Sydney Thunder.

However, Gayle was not selected in the squad, a decision that Chairman of selectors Courtney Daley defended.

Daley at that time said it was a decision that had to be taken given the possibility of injury to players.

Gayle is considered to be one of the best Twenty20 players in the world.

Andre McCathy is expected to make way for Gayle.
