Gov't seeks more from coffee, restructures coffee board
The current restructuring of the Coffee Industry Board - the agency of government responsible for overseeing the fortunes of Jamaica's coffee, including the world renowned Blue Mountain brand - is being done to boost production and derive higher earnings for the country.
Agriculture Minister Roger Clarke says the CIB is being transformed to meet the demands for improving efficiency as well as savvy marketing and promotion of the island's distinctive coffee, especially the internationally acclaimed Blue Mountain brand.

As a result, Minister Clarke says the regulatory and marketing segments of the CIBís operations will be separated. He says a team has been put in place to devise the appropriate measures that would allow for this to be done, thereby allowing for the profile of the CIB, which up until now has largely been seen as a regulator, to be raised.

The Minister was speaking at the boardís long service awards ceremony last week.
