A massive fire last evening destroyed a property occupied by squatters at 45 Hope Road, St Andrew opposite the Police Officers' Club.

Fire personnel worked for hours to contain the blaze.

The fire started minutes after 7 o'clock forcing the police to temporarily block a section of the road.

The property, which is owned by attorney Charles Williams, was not insured.

Williams said he had been trying to have the squatters removed for the past six months.
