Western Bureau:

Undaunted by the challenges of the business, 21-year-old college student Richard Dixon, who goes by the moniker G-Money, wants to use music as his platform to express his creativity as well as an option to earn an income.

"It's a lot of hard work, especially going to school and doing music at the same time," said Dixon. "A lot of time management is required, but at the same time, it's a plus because I can market myself and network."

Dixon currently attends Montego Bay Community College, where he is studying hospitality and tourism management.

"Where time management is concerned, it's a lot easier at college. After school, it's straight to the studio from 6 to 10 p.m., or sometimes even later," said G-Money.

"Most importantly, though, I have to make time for school because education is priceless," he added.

While admitting three years is a short time to learn all he needs to know about the music business, G-Money is comforted by the fact that everyone has to start from somewhere, and that this is his first step.

"It started with a group of us making beats in class," the budding artiste shared. "At around that same time, I lost my girlfriend after being together for three years. With all of that going on, it drew me closer to the music. Music is now my friend."

FRESH AND CREATIVE MUSIC

G-Money described his style as a fusion of dancehall, pop, and soul. He said that his music would deliver something fresh and creative to music lovers.

The aspiring musician is currently working on music videos for his songs Want It All and Di Real Pree.

"I want to have longevity in this business, so I have to be creative while having some sense of individuality with my music," G-Money said. "So I am working hard to achieve that, but I am having fun in the process. My brother Chris is a great motivator, and I'm grateful to be surrounded by positive people."
