Protoje releases album in time for Reggae Month - Free listening party for much-anticipated 'The 8 Year Affair' next week
Protoje
February, Reggae Month, heralds the arrival of Protoje's sophomore album, The 8 Year Affair.

According to the artiste, the follow-up to The 7 Year Itch is about the expectations and challenges that often accompany growth and success.

Veritably poised to be hailed as Reggae royalty in the making, The 8 Year Affair album was master-fully produced by Donovan 'Don Corleon' Bennett, and is reminiscent of reggae in the early '80s, when 'hotsteppers' like Ini Kamoze, Sly & Robbie and Black Uhuru were the big names of the day.

When asked about the album's signature and what listeners can anticipate, Protoje commented, "The sound is much better than the first album. We explored some different themes on this one also."

The 8 Year Affair takes listeners through many moods, with songs that speak directly to the human condition, making it a relatable and resonant work.

Protoje's vision for his music is to inspire people to ask more questions and be more vocal. "I want the songs to make people think. At the same time, it's a very relaxed vibe. Nothing over 80 beats per minute."

listening session

Protoje will be hosting a listening session for The 8 Year Affair that is open to everyone who wants to hear, free of cost, at Tuff Gong Studios on February 12 at 8 p.m.

Later in the month, on February 23, Protoje and InDiggnation band will perform The 8 Year Affair live.

Tessanne Chin, Chris Watts, Romain Virgo and Toi will also make appearances, as they are featured on The 8 Year Affair.

The event will be held at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Art's School of Music. Show time is 8 p.m. and the cover charge is $1,000.

If you're not familiar with the movement being hailed as the 'Reggae Revival', February is an ideal month to experience it.
