Manchester Chamber honours business leaders

The town of Mandeville played host to the annual Manchester Chamber of Commerce (MCC) banquet last Saturday night at the Golf View Hotel.

The event was well supported by the business community of the parish. Also in attendance were Kelly Tomblin, president and CEO of the Jamaica Public Service (JPS); Andrew Fazio, director of business solutions at Columbus Business Solutions; and Dr Trevor Gardner, president of Northern Caribbean University (NCU).

Wendy Freckelton, president of the MCC, highlighted the humanitarian work of the Chamber throughout 2012.

Freckelton said during 2013, many new businesses are set to come on stream in Manchester and these will provide more employment and strengthen the economy of the parish. Former prime minister P.J. Patterson was guest speaker.

On a night when business leaders of Manchester were recognised, among the big winners was the NCU which won the Education and Technology awards.

Other winners were Fontana Pharmacy which won the Business of The Year award; Vicbern Aluminum & Asphalt Roofing Limited won the Family Business of The Year award and the Bank of Nova Scotia Jamaica Limited won the Bank and Finance award.

The Hospitality Award went to Merveline Hanson.

S & G Road Surfacing Materials Limited won the Construction award, Windalco won the Community Impact award through its community-outreach programmes and Dr Stephen Mungal-Singh won the Health award.

Exclusive Dental Care won the Customer Service award Jamaica National Small Business Loans Limited won the visionary award Baking Enterprise Limited won the Manufacturer award and Treasure Box Jewellers won the Entrepreneur award.
