Give SLB consultants' pay
THE EDITOR, Sir:

As a university student, I unwaveringly support Senator Robert Montague's stance that the current Government should fire consultants and fund the Students' Loan Bureau.

The profound words of Nelson Mandela - "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" - strengthen my faith in Senator Montague's assertion. With several students searching for inspiration from the Government, most students seem to be reaping chronic desperation in this search for hope.

The recent deregistration of more than 5,000 university students defames the prime minister's reiterated mantra that she loves the poor. Tertiary education is a prime medium via which poverty can be alleviated. This is a retrograde step for human development in Jamaica and will result in an economic mess in years to come.

Damion Crawford must be lauded for his efforts with his 3-2-1 plan in his constituency since he seems to have dislodged "the world" from Nelson Mandela's quote and supplanted it with "Jamaica". With an amalgamation of Mr Crawford's and Mr Montague's visions for Jamaica, I assert, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change Jamaica."
