Clarendon cops curbing crime
Dathan Henry
THE EDITOR, Sir:

I write to laud the efforts of Senior Superintendent Dathan Henry and his team for the tactical and excellent work they have been doing in Clarendon.

In the old days, one could identify a criminal a mile away. Today, thugs come in all forms: a little hunchbacked granny, men in suits, and women in gowns.

It is, therefore, a difficult task for the police; and so, with the limited resources available to law enforcers, the citizens in the parish believe SSP Henry has been one of the most effective leaders.

The police must interact with all of the citizenry; however, not because someone is well-known and holds a respectable position, it does not mean that he or she is a law-abiding person. There are instances when the police sit with a group of 'pillars of the community' to apprise them of the progress and plans of the department. However, sitting right there in the group are several criminals who relay information back to their foot soldiers. Criminals know very well that they can commit illegal activities by using 'respectable' characters as fronts.

Many criminals will divulge the fact that the $40,000 gun in his waist was not given to him by a pauperised crony. It is, therefore, important that the police begin to look into the source of the gun instead of focusing solely on the user.

I am, etc.,
